Consensus three star recruit and the 138th best player in the Class of 2013 according to Future150, Isaiah Watkins, committed to Duquesne this evening. The 6'8'' 230 pound power forward is originally from Ontario but is prepping at St Benedict's in New Jersey. He is described as complete player with great skill for a big man. Future150 rates him as the 42nd best PF nationally.
Watkins comes with a long offer list. His final 13 included a mix of BCS, high majors and mid majors and ultimately, he chose Duquense over Arkansas, Villanova, Temple, Washington, the U, Rhode Island, St Bonaventure, Charlotte, Oregon St, Niagara Princeton and Columbia. In all, he is listed with 23 offers that didn't make the cut. The most notable of those came from 2012 Elite Eight participant Baylor, Sweet Sixteen schools Indiana and Cincinnati as well as Michigan, Missouri, BC, Stanford, Oregon, SMU and Providence.
Watkins is the first member of the Dukes class of 2013. Based on expected graduations, Jim Ferry can add one more scholarship player next year.
