First 24 Hours for Duquesne Head Coach

Here's a fictional agenda I've laid out for the next men's basketball coach first 24 hours on the job.


10:30 AM Arrive at Pittsburgh International Airport

11:00 AM Arrive at Duquesne, meet president and tour the faculties

11:45 AM First meeting with team, address concerns and philosophy. Outline a plan for success.

12:15 PM Lunch with team

1:00 PM Press Conference

1:30 PM Depart for Reading with Jason Byrd driving.

1:31 PM Explanation that the city's name is pronounced like Redding not Reading as in reading a book.

1:55 PM  Contact one of the previous assistant coaches to gauge whether or not they'd be interested in staying on.

2:15 PM Contact Willie Moore. Let him know you'll be there first thing in the morning.

2:30 PM Begin contacting other candidates for the staff as well as some potential recruits

4:00 PM Make a decision on one staff hire. Contact the athletic department to draw up a contract. Get it signed and get them on the road.

4:15 PM Watch some film.

5:00 PM Arrive at Donovan Jack's home. Tell him why Duquesne is still the best place for him. Invite him out for another visit to campus.

6:00 PM Head to Philly

7:30 PM Meet Neumann - Gorretti  High School coach to introduce yourself. Talk about kids in the pipeline

10:00 PM Check into hotel. Follow up with new assistant. Review film on recruits.

11:00 PM Bed time.

4:30 AM Wake up

5:30 AM Arrive Philadelphia International Airport

6:00 AM Board flight for Cincinnati

8:00 AM Arrive at Cincinnati International Airport

9:00 AM Arrive at Aiken High School to meet with Willie Moore. Tell him about the minutes available at guard next year.

9:45 AM Apologize and tell Willie he needs to go back to class.

10:00 AM Depart for Southern California to try to keep together the rest of the best class in 60 years.
