There have been rumors that we'll be looking internationally for our recruiting, so I wasn't surprised when I found this article during a routine Google news search. The article is about Dayton's recruiting of 6'9" 230 lb Alexandre Gavrilovic out of France. He had committed to Providence in 2010 but had a problem with his French transcripts, and so he returned to Florida-based IMG Academy. After the troubles qualifying, it is rumored that he doesn't want the shuffle and red tape of a bigger school. How accurate that is remains to be seen.
This is the key part of the article:
"Barto said Gavrilovic is being recruited by a wide range of schools, including Kansas, Texas Tech and Mississippi State. He plans to take a visit to Towson next week and also is considering Duquesne, Florida International and SMU."
According to an article quoted by our friends at the Blackburn Review, Gavrilovic averaged 1.3 PPG and 9.2 minutes per game on the French U20 team last year. Still searching for stats from IMG Academy.
We'll be looking into this more as it develops.
