The Dukes received their third verbal commitment for 2012 and second from the state of Ohio when Warren Harding power forward Shaheed Davis verbally committed to Duquesne. Davis is reported as anywhere from 6'7'' -6'9,'' but he has been listed as 6'9'' more often than anything as senior. Triple Double Hoops ranks him as the 4th best PF in the state behind players committed to West Virginia, Michigan St. and Wichita St. He had offers from Southern Illinois, Akron, Kent St, Tenn-Chattanooga, Toledo, and Cleveland St and interest from Cincinnati before deciding on Duquesne. He visited the bluff at the same time as Willie Moore in the fall.
Davis is a fairly typical Ron Everhart big man. He does not have ideal height for a center but makes up for it with athleticism, leaping ability and length. According Triple Double, Davis has a 7'1'' wing span. He's averaging 10.3 points this season and around 6.5 boards a game. His high school team is not lacking for weapons and every player in the line up is over 6 feet tall. Unfortunately, there is only one ball for all of them. Davis is said to be able to put the ball on the floor and is developing an outside shooting game. However, he sounds like he could be somewhat raw as Triple Double Hoops describes him as a "high major project" who is "a little inconsistent with his production." This seems to have carried over to his senior season with Davis scoring a season low of 2 points in a game for Harding and a high of 21 in another.
Davis is rated a three star prospect by Scout. He and each of his classmates are rated as three's by at least one recruiting service, Moore also by Scout and Donovan Jack by Recruit Recon. This commitment gives the Dukes 14 scholarship athletes for the 2012-2013 season, one over the NCAA limit.
