It's time for the WNIT. The ladies of Duquesne will be taking on Kent State at the AJ Palumbo Center. This is the third year in a row that Suzie McConnell-Serio's iteration of the Dukes will be playing in this event. Certainly we hoped for the NCAA, but clearly the future is bright for the ladies. You need look no further than A10 Rookie of the Year Wumi Agunbiade.
The Dukes are only 14-15 against schools from the MAC, but this year bested all MAC competition that they faced this year. Here's hoping for another! This one will be a short blurb then it is off to bed for me! Read on!
The Dukes (22-8) vs.Kent State Golden Flashes (20-9)
Kent State Stuff:
Away record: 7-7
Leading Scorers: Taisja Jones (16.7), Jamilah Humes (14.8)
- After those two, no one averages double figures
- Their leading scorer is also their best rebounder with 6.1 per game
- Senior Ellie Shields is their center. She doesn't excel in any one category but does have a very high shooting percentage and adds in her share of rebounds.
- Humes leads the team in assists, but Stephanie Gibson is a big part of making the offense work as well. These two players combine for well over 50% of the team's entire assist total.
Other points of interest:
- The Dukes are 1-2 against Kent, with each team winning at home and Kent winning on a neutral site.
- This is Kent's second consecutive year in the WNIT
