The Palumbo Faithful(and students) were out in full force today at the AJ Palumbo Center to see their beloved Dukes wipe up the Temple Owls 78-66 in a game that was really never as close as the final score indicated. Senior swingman Bill Clark scored 22 points to lead the Dukes. Evans, Talley and Saunders all scored in double digits. Saunders had the crowd going crazy with two huge slams in the 2nd half that deflated the Owls. Defense?...Who says the Dukes can't play defense? Temple only shot 31% for the game. The Dukes even out-rebounded the Owls by 6. Saunders stat line finished up at 10 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks and 2 steals. He did a number on Lavoy Allen as well.
Many Temple fans will point to the injured Juan Fernandez in this one. It will be interesting to see these teams meet again when he is healthy on the neutral Boardwalk Hall floor in Atlantic City, NJ.
Note - TJ McConnell was 10 minutes late to the pre-game breakfast and thus didn't start and sat for the first 10 minutes of the game. Also, 58 fouls were called in this one.
